So I’ve been trying to find a decent bed to put on my F250, and they’re basically all rotted...mostly in the fender flares. That’s a pain in the ass, but I found one that has solid sides. The problem, of course, is that the bed floor is rotted.
Have any of you guys repaired a bed floor before? It’s got some pretty big holes, but I figure I can just cut back the rot, patch the holes, and throw a bedliner in it. The nice thing is that it looks like I’d basically just be working with flat metal, and it wouldn’t matter at all how it looks.
The price is right ($300 obo), I think about $50 worth of sheet metal would get me a useable bed. What say you, Oppo?

Is that a picture of your current bed or the $300 one?
Either way, I would keep looking for a more serviceable bed to swap in. In the meantime, spend as little as possible on the existing one; patch the floor with a sheet (or two) of plywood if you have to, until you locate a replacement.

That much rust is not worth repairing on a modern truck. There are plenty of clean Southern Beds and take-offs out there. (It’s always Fords with the rust too what’s up with that?)

I would just pay for a good one from out of state and pay the premium for it. Because I am not handy.

yeah, I do some rust fixing on oldies on the side and can be talked into fixing some really rotten stuff, but that bed’s nasty.
will do this, but I wouldn’t touch that box.

I would just cut it out and bolt some heavy duty plywood down then put old signs on it. That or build a nice wood bed. Orrrrrr, make it into a flat bed. My truck is old and originally had a wood bottom bed, so I cut out some plywood. $30 fix which won’t last forever, but will work until I make it a flatbed hotrod. Here’s a before and after. It has more signs in it now. I’ve loaded a few thousand pounds worth of paper in the back with no issues.

Also voting go south for a bed or get a flatbed with stake side pockets, so it can be a makeshift bed if need-be. Otherwise just strap everything down.
I have never seen a bed do that, but TX. Have seen trucks with rotted bedsides on occasion though.

I’m not a big fan of how a flatbed looks, so I’ll probably keep looking for a good solid bed. Guys around here ask like $2000 for them, which is most of what I paid for the truck, so that's out.

Replace bed, or bolt down plywood and forget it.

It would be a lot easier to cut the good flares off the $300 bed and weld them to the good floor.

That's not a bad idea at all. My bed is total junk all around, so I'd have to find another one with a good floor and supports.

i don’t have experience but I have seen beds scrapped for less. I would maybe try to keep looking. A lot of the reason the bed doesn’t warp all over the place from loads is that the bottom acts like corrugated metal

That’s the $300 bed...I wish mine was that good, haha.

Have you checked Car-Part.com ? They don’t list pictures, but there might be something in your area. I think most salvage yards would be too embarrassed to put something THAT bad up for sale. Seriously, that thing looks like it was used to haul salt.
I’ll admit that if you’re willing to do some welding, $350 is a fair price for a functional bed. Hell, if you were in SE Michigan, I’d give you my old GM bed for free and let you cut whatever you wanted out of it for your patching...

There's apparently one in Tiverton, where my grandparents live, for $500 with rusted wheel wells. That's an easy fix though, just cut the rust out and install plastic flares, haha. Good call on Car-Parts.com, I didn't know that was a thing.
